What’s it like to be a man in today’s society? How can I use my gender consciousness to push for equality and dignity? These are some of the deep questions asked by our male colleagues during a three-day workshop on Masculinity in October in Thailand. The event provided a safe, confidential space for the participants to voice out traditionally unspoken inquiries about culture, religion, society and men’s roles in the family, in the workplace and in their communities. They made plans to follow up on what they’ve learned by implementing tasks and exercises within the family, in their offices and in their engagement with partners. “We must certainly start to learn how to cook” was one strong conviction coming from the group.
